Pushing through...

Sometimes, life really does deal you with some serious challenges. On the face of it, you wonder if you can overcome the obstacles and/or barriers in your way. You wonder if you have the goods to make a difference or make an impact. You wonder if the barriers are self made or if they are external. You wonder if they are truly obstacles or points of learning. Most of all, you wonder why the barriers are there to begin with...

But, then you stop questioning. You start taking matters into your own hands and you start forging your way through, a path marked by your perseverance and hard work. You begin to realize that those barriers are only opportunities to grow.

As I was talking to my dad, he told me not to expect anything from anyone else, but to expect everything from myself. And I am expecting a lot. I am expecting to make a significant difference. I am expecting to break through this infernal glass ceiling. I am expecting to be an example of determination and hard work. I am expecting to overcome the barriers of race and gender. I am expecting to rise up to the challenge.

What do you expect from yourself?
