As I start to get ready for this 5k run, which for some people may be a drop in the bucket, I am bolstered by the support of my friends and family who are encouraging me to try new things. We always find reasons why we can't do things, but this is an example of why we can. Because people believe in me, it strengthens my belief in myself. And vice versa, it is important to trust and support the efforts of others because you may be what bolsters them.
I'm not going to kid myself, this will be monumental for me. I've never claimed to be athletic in any sense of the word. I had, in many ways, prepared myself to age as most do. Not that I'm extremely old - I'm not. Though at times, because of my life's experiences, I feel older and wiser in some ways, and younger and naive in others.
Again, I am elated and petrified at the thought of doing this, but mostly I am proud because I am doing something. That in conjunction with the support of my friends, family and even strangers, is giving me a boost.
For that, I say thanks.
